Course Description
The Big Picture Art Class is a Mural Creation class. Artists will work on a huge canvas approximately 8 feet by 20 feet. Each artist will work on a portion of the piece and the contributions of the artist will combine for a wonderful and very large scene – subject, yet to be decided. The mural can be any theme such as a river, Main Street Laurel, Washington, DC, amusement park, or other geographical area.
Each artist will learn and be instructed on drawing people, animals, plants, cars, and many other subjects and objects that are contained in the theme scene. The goal is to draw (and eventually color) thousands of small subjects and objects that will combine to make a very very full and detailed scene. The artists will first draw with pencil, then outline with black marker, then color with non-toxic color markers. Essentially, the artist will create their own very large coloring book page and then fill in with color. Skills that will be emphasized are realism, proportion, and creativity. We are hoping to display the piece at City Hall or other Public Area.
INSTRUCTORS
Catherine Gubisch – Graduate Art Student (American University)
Ayla Roda – Local Artist
Al Roda – Instructor at Laurel School of Music
MATERIALS
Pencil, Fine Black Marker (Sharpie), Non-Toxic Magic Markers
