Laurel School of Music

Piano Lessons

Private piano lessons are offered for persons ages 4 to adult. Instruction for children under 5 years of age is available, but it is recommended that the parent contact the Director for a consultation. Lessons consist of one half-hour tutorial lesson each week. (One-hour sessions can be arranged) Each lesson is individually tailored to fit the student's level of experience (from beginner to advanced) and music preference. The Laurel School of Music offers instruction on traditional pianos, electric keyboards, and electric pianos.  Inidividuals can choose to concentrate their instruction in many differenct styles, including classical, jazz, improvisation, rock or pop.

Piano Instructors at the School include concert pianists who have performed for the President of the United States (see "About the Staff - Dr. Mack Statham), composers of master pieces played at in nationally acclaimed venues, jazz improvisation specialists, and instructors adept in teaching very young beginning musicians.

The Laurel School of Music does not believe in the "one teacher fits all students" philosophy.  We retain a wide variety of instructors who specialize in the different kinds and levels of pianist.  While one teacher specializes in the young beginning pianist, others specialize in adults, while others specialize in the intermediate/expert pianist.  We place great importance in matching the student to the instructor.

Periodically, the Laurel School of Music holds a recital for its piano students. While not mandatory, all students are encouraged to participate in the recital, as it allows them to demonstrate their proficiency while gaining confidence in a performance setting.
