Drum Instruction
Drum Instruction at the Laurel School of Music revolves around two areas of discipline, 1) Drum and percussion skills for the Rock, Jazz, or Pop drummer, and 2) Drum, rhythm, and percussion skills for the Band or Orchestra percussionist.
Drum Set/Rock, Jazz, Pop Band Instruction
Drum skills geared toward the band drummer include practice and proficiency in all the patterns needed to play in the various styles of popular music. Students are taught patterns for rock, jazz, pop, reggae, praise music as well as many other styles. Lessons are taught with recorded music as well as written music. The goal of this area of instruction is to prepare the musician to perform with live music bands. Many of our drum students participate in our many rock band programs and rock groups that perform for the many opportunities for public performance.
Drum and Percussion Skills for the School Band/Orchestra Percussionist

Emphasis is placed on reading notes and following tempos dictated by a musical score.
